We just got back from a beautiful vacation to Tenerife to celebrate Jan and Nettie's 40th wedding anniversary. They took the whole clan to the beautiful Tenerife Island. Tenerife a Spanish island, is the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa.

We celebrated New Years Eve at our house with family and friends. We lit fireworks, toasted with champain, and had a very fun time.

Leah, Rika and Laurie

Leah celebrated until about 9 PM, then went to sleep. She had fun playing with the other children here.

Ice skating on natural ice

We did a very wintery activity - ice skating on natural ice. All the streams and canals were frozen. Rob took me skating on the canal where he learned to skate. It was my first time on natural ice - which can be wet, muddy, bumpy, and make cracking noises, but is much more interesting than skating rink ice. It was only my 3rd time on ice skates at all, but I did pretty well.

WInter windmill

There are a number of special skating routes here. The area where I skated is called the "Wind Mill Tour" or Molen Tocht in Dutch. Part of it involves ducking under bridges, and crossing roads in your skates. It is 40 km long. I skated a grand 3 kms. Next year, I'll try for 5!

"Molen Tocht"

Femke was out with Quinten on the sled. Jan and Nettie also went out skating. Nettie still wears the same skates Jan bought for her 40 years ago!
